Bargaining Update 3

Hello AMU Members,

Today the AMU Bargaining Committee met with GDPSC management to negotiate the contract, we discussed the following:

Evaluation Committee presented the following recommendations:

  • Debrief meeting that follows the Informal Observation

    • Desire to add language to the contract that allows admin to meet the needs of teachers that want more coaching that is mutually agreed upon

    • The goal is to make informal debriefs more meaningful

  • Need district-wide alignment with the unscheduled observation

    • Issues with the following:

      • Currently some teachers get notices about unscheduled observations

      • Preferences of which class will be observed

      • The cadence of the meetings (spreading out the informals vs. back to back)

    • Plan to address these issues by coaching admin and acquiring data

  • CRTF revisions

    • Reduced the amount of indicators

    • Revised the language within the CRTF rubric

Benefits Committee presented on the following:

  • Overall there is a cost savings to the organization for the combined cost of all the health plans, Anthem, Kaiser, MetLife, and VSP

  • Most of the savings come from the Anthem Vivity HMO

  • Anthem Traditional HMO and Kaiser HMO are projected to have very limited increases

  • Larger increases are expected for the Anthem EPO and Anthem PPO plans

Probationary period:

  • GDPSC’s bargaining team has retracted their proposal to create a probationary period for certificated employees.

Compensation:

  • GDPSC has rejected our initial salary proposal and have not yet given a counter proposal

  • GDPSC does not have an interest in a multi-year salary increase beyond 2018-19

  • GDPSC has expressed interest, but no specific proposals in regards to

    • teachers/counselors at transformation schools, and

    • veteran teachers

  • GDPSC will present more specific proposals at our bargaining session on March 15th

Length of Work Year:

  • GDPSC is not interested in changing the length of the school year, specifically in regards to reducing the number of professional development days

AMU and GDPSC will be negotiating again on Thursday, March 15th, 2018.  At that meeting we expect another presentations from the Evaluations Committee and will continue to discuss all open articles.

As always, please e-mail me at bargainingchair@amuanimo.org if you have any questions or concerns.

Best,

Ben West
